dc.descriptionHistoFerón: primer ensayo diagnóstico para la detección de infección latente por un hongo patogénico. Es un libro que propone una nueva prueba diagnóstica llamada HistoFerón, para detectar infecciones subclínicas o latentes por Histoplasma capsulatum (Hc), incluso décadas después de la infección primaria. Estas infecciones pueden llegar a desarrollar formas clínicas graves en individuos con su sistema inmune debilitado y no son cubiertas por las pruebas de laboratorio que se aplican actualmente en la práctica clínica. Los temas abordados en el libro y el lenguaje utilizado conducen al lector a través de la epidemiología, la inmunología, y la amplia gama de formas clínicas de la histoplasmosis y su diagnóstico en el laboratorio. Se describen también las estrategias computacionales y experimentales que nos permitieron crear un prototipo del ensayo de liberación de interferón gamma específico para Histoplasma capsulatum, útil para los clínicos que tratan a pacientes vulnerables con alto riesgo de desarrollar una enfermedad grave. Se trata entonces de un reto científico y médico de mucha actualidad, y una línea de investigación apasionante.spa
