Abstract
This article provides a summary of a portion of the results obtained from the mixed project developed over the past five years with University of Medelln students, whose objective was to “Analyze the influence of communication and language in the construction of sexist imaginaries and models among Communication Faculty students.” The importance of communication in moulding the interpersonal connections of young people is investigated quantitatively through an analytical reading with a gender perspective, identifying the probable normalisation of sexist positions and digging into the significance of language in this process. To this end, 464 surveys were conducted, covering 35% of the total student body, with a margin or error of 3.67 percent and a confidence level of 95 percent, supported by a corpus based on a double perspective, on the one hand, references to gender studies and feminist theory, and on the other hand, communication. The results reveal the acceptance/rejection of feminism by individuals, with differences and subtleties depending on the gender of the respondents, delving into the overcoming of macho stereotypes and cautioning against the prevalence of androcentric behaviours embedded in their unconscious and reinforced by cultural industries. © 2023 The Author(s).
