This article analyses the character of the journalist in four Colombian noir films, Perder es cuestión de método (2004), El Rey (2004), La historia del baúl rosado (2005) and Antes del fuego (2015). Our hypothesis posits that in American film noir, the journalist is often depicted as a truth seeker who fulfils a heroic role. Through textual analysis, we aim to identify similarities and differences between the functions of the hero and the symbolic task proposed by the Theory of the Story. This analysis will enable us to determine whether the journalist in these films is presented as a truth seeker who succeeds in fulfilling their task. In two of the movies, the journalist is portrayed as a truth seeker, but despite uncovering the truth, they are silenced by the state or its corrupt representatives. In La Historia del baúl rosado, the journalist is depicted as an opponent driven by a desire for professional success, while in El Rey, they serve merely as an informant of events. © 2024, CEU Ediciones.
