The Social Acceptability of Geothermal Energy in Quebec and Canada

Both aimed to study respondents’ knowledge and views on energy and deep geothermal energy. Findings reveal both Quebecers and Canadian students and professionals see the development of renewable energies as a very important energy-related issue. Despite different levels of knowledge and acceptance rates, they favour deep geothermal energy production. However, both categories of respondents’ level of support decline substantially when hydraulic stimulation is introduced, as concerns about groundwater pollution and soil contamination emerge. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
