This research focuses on problems associated with the regulation governing the activity of under-age YouTubers; in particular, how this situation has developed in Mexico in recent years. Mexico is one of the most important markets for the consumption of digital media in Latin America. With a focus on case-study methodology, this work has three main objectives: a) to understand the potential risks to which under-age YouTubers are exposed, b) to analyse the case of Mexico: the consumer market of media, particularly among minors, as well as its regulatory framework. c) to find out the proposals that currently exist to fill this legal vacuum and how they could be adapted to the Mexican case. The analysis and conclusions in this work will demonstrate how the activity of minor creators represents a new field of activity, hence the regulations must be updated to cover these new forms of content production and consumption. © 2022 Universidad de Alicante.
