This article explores the relationship between controlling leisure time, factory work and workers' participation in textile-industry sponsored sports event. It is proposed that in the period of consolidation of economic modernization in Colombia from 1930 to 1960, the organization of factory work and the promotion of sports among workers converged. The method used is a documentary review with a historical approach and a textile factory named Coltejer is proposed as a case study. The article shows that from the thirties to the forties, sports activities were part of the workers' leisure time to maintain good physical conditions that contributed to labor efficiency and the containment of labor conflicts. This phase boosted workers’ participation in the fifties in sports events with industrial sponsorship. It was concluded that the sports field reproduced employer-worker dependence relations, and Coltejer's sports sponsorship was interested in promoting a model of conduct and values that guided the work environment in the factory. © 2022 Universidad Nacional de Rosario - Facultad de Humanidades y Artes, Escuela de Historia.
